Sayulita is the most charming and magical beach town just north of Puerto Vallarta. A once quiet coastal fishing and surfing village is now a popular seaside gem for tourists staying in nearby Bahia Mita, Punta Mita, and other resort towns. Between the beach, shopping, and restaurants, there's plenty to do for a full day trip.

Sayulita is an hour drive from Puerto Vallarta and 45-minutes from Secrets Bahia Mita, where I stayed.

To make it an easy and worry free day, I recommend paying a taxi driver for the full day - you can usually find someone who will take you there, wait for you, and bring you back when you're ready. Or you can always hire a private transfer through Amstar DMC.

Take A Picture In Sayulita On The Street With The Colorful Flags

Sayulita is famous for the street with the flags, so be sure to stop for a photo or 12. Most drivers will know where this is and it's a great "meeting" place for them to drop you off and pick you back up.

Shop In The Vibrant Sayulita Boutiques

The streets of Sayulita are full of charming boutiques where you will find colorful otomi print textiles (my personal favorite), macrame masks, cute clothes and hats, dream catchers, handmade jewelry, and hand-beaded figurines made by local artists.

EDT Favorites

1. Revolucion del Sueno Bahia de Band (55 Calle Manuel) This was the last shop I found and the one I had been looking for all day - definitely my favorite find in Sayulita. It is full of bright, colorful textiles. They have everything from strands of pom pom garlands, to otomi embroidered purses and jean jackets, to beach blankets, embroidered pillows, jewelry, and more.

2. Evoke The Spirit (Marling Street #12 B)

For more great finds, head over to House of Nomad for their recommendations - we seem to have similar taste.

Support Local Mexican Street Vendors

Sayulita is the perfect place to hunt for one-of-a-kind treasures that will forever remind you of your time in Mexico. Artisans descend upon the streets and beach to show off (and sell) their beautiful textiles and handmade treasures by local artists.

EDT Tip: Never buy anything at the price the initially tell you. Practice you bargaining skills and barter, barter, barter. The more of each item you buy, the bigger discount you'll receive - perfect for snagging gifts to take back home.

Grab A Cocktail & Tuna Tostada

Just off the beach is a great open air restaurant, Don Pedro's. Ask for a spicy margarita and try the tuna tostados. The beach vendors will walk by with their goods hoping to grab your attention, so you may even be able to do a little shopping while you eat and dink..

Take A Surfing Lesson In Sayulita

Sayulita is famous for surfing. earn how to surf or paddle with Sayulita Surf Co.

Snap Pictures Along The Way

There's a photo opp in every direction, so be ready to snap tons of pics along the way.
